The prescriptive authority is the limited authority to prescribe certain medications according to the protocol established. The limited authority on prescribing medication can have some effects on the nursing practice. The state laws concerning prescriptive authority for advanced APRNs vary broadly, under the structure under which the APRNs may prescribe. Prescribing is a critical component of APRN (RAND Corporation, 2016). The prescriptive authority affects the nursing practice in various ways. One is that when an NP is limited on prescribing medicine, they are not given a room to acquire knowledge on prescription and this affect their practice. An NP need to have experience on the prescription and by limiting that this have effect on their practice. Giving the NP the prescriptive authority can improve their ability on prescription and also their skills on that.
